3 quotes, 3 days: day two – Evening is the Whole Day

Taking up the challenge for a second time  – thanks Gel @Books y Gel.

I’ve chosen a quote from my current read Evening is the Whole Day, by Preeta Samarasan.  This novel flits between newly emancipated Malaysia and Malaysia in the 1980s, centering on the dysfunctional Rajasekharan family in Ipoh.

Part of this novel features the Sino-Malay race riots in 1969.  Samarasan beautifully details the escalating tension; I thought this quote perfectly captures what happens in moments of civil disquiet or disruption, when no one is quite able to distinguish between truth and fallacy.
